Finding Calm Through the Flute

Before I began learning the flute, I had zero knowledge of music. My demanding work schedule kept me constantly stressed, and anxiety had become part of my everyday life. I wanted something that could help me find calm, so I turned to the bansuri.

The beginning was not easy. Early morning was the only time I could practise, and simply committing to waking up was a struggle. I was also worried that I might fail. In those first days, my fingers did not cooperate at all, and it felt very easy to give up. Still, I kept returning to the flute whenever I could, trying to stay committed despite the doubt.

Long notes became a turning point for me. When I play them, I feel the presence of Krishna. In those moments, the stress settles, my mind becomes quieter, and I feel focused. The flute slowly became more than something I was learning. It became a space of peace within a restless life.

There was one period when I could not play. My father was battling for his life on a ventilator, and I was his caregiver. I missed three weeks of practice. When I returned, I had to reset and begin again. I continued steadily until Bhupali 1, carrying with me the understanding that even after an interruption, I could still come back to the music.

Today, I am calmer, and the flute means more to me than I can express. I feel deep gratitude to Guru Harsh Dave sir for guiding me on this journey. My days are still difficult to balance, with five hours of commuting, twelve hours of work, and the remaining time devoted to family commitments. It has been a restless journey, but the flute gives me peace of mind and helps me stay focused.

I hope to pursue the Diamond membership when my schedule tapers down. I want to choose that path only when I can offer it a firm level of commitment. For now, I continue with sincerity whenever time allows. Even within the busiest days, the bansuri reminds me that I can pause, breathe, begin again, and find calm.
